Apr. 26, 2024, Long Sault, Ont. – At the April 24 Regular Council Meeting, South Stormont Council approved Station 2’s new Fire Hall and the Department’s Training Centre. The new facility will be located at the corner of 45th Parallel Drive and Farran Drive.

“A new location for Station 2 has long been identified as a need for this community to ensure that our Fire Service has adequate facilities to not only serve our community and rescue teams, but also provide the necessary training required of our service members,” said Mayor Bryan McGillis.

The future home of Station No. 2 and the Department Training Centre is approximately 10 acres in size, providing adequate space for the future Fire Hall, stormwater management pond, outdoor firefighter training grounds, all while retaining a large portion of tree coverage as a separation between the fire service activities and the neighbouring park amenities.

“This has been a longstanding issue for our community, and I am happy to see it finally come to a Council decision,” said Councillor Jennifer MacIsaac. “I thank Chief Lamer and staff for their hard work in addressing the questions and concerns that have been raised over the years in this proposal” she added.

The next steps will be to initiate the site planning and design process for the new facility. A finalized site plan, design and cost estimates will be presented to Council as part of the 3-year budget deliberations in the fall, with an anticipated commencement of construction in 2025.
